Maja Cupac, M.Ed., LPCC-S, SEP, C-DBT, BASE-P

Maja was born and raised in the Croatian region known as Dalmatia, which encompasses the country’s western border with the Adriatic Sea.  Known for its beautiful beaches and seaside, Dalmatia provided the backdrop for an idyllic and free-spirited childhood.  That childhood came to an end, however, when war broke out when she was 10 years old.  Forced out of their beloved country at gunpoint, Maja was forced into exile in a neighboring country.  Then followed 8 years of bombings, poverty, hunger, displacement, and fear.  Maja eventually came to the United States as a refugee and was placed in Kentucky.  In addition to learning and navigating a foreign culture and environment, she immersed herself in academia and set out on her path to help others.  Maja earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Berea College, and went on to earn a Master of Education degree in Mental Health Counseling from Lindsey Wilson College. She became a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor (LPCC-S) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and has consistently provided clinical supervision to dozens of counseling students and LPCAs. She then completed a 3-year certification course in order to become trauma-specialized as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP). Maja is also certified as a trauma-informed Neurofeedback practitioner, as well as being certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Seeking to explore ways in which to utilize bodywork as an effective intervention for trauma, Maja completed Dave Berger’s Relational Bodywork and Somatic Education training program (BASE™). She is also in the process of completing a Somatic Experiencing® Master Class entitled Eye of the Needle, which trains SEPs to work intensively with trauma related to altered states of consciousness and near-death experiences.
