What is Somatic Experiencing®?
Somatic Experiencing is a cutting-edge, body-oriented approach to the treatment of trauma and stress-related disorders. Somatic experiencing is based on multidisciplinary modalities including physiology, psychology, biology, neuroscience and medical biophysics. Somatic Experiencing releases traumatic shock, transforms PTSD, and heals emotional and early (developmental) trauma. It offers movement from fixated physiological states (flight, fight, freeze responses) into an integrated state of being. Somatic Experiencing can also involve touch and body-focused work. The touch skills are used to aid in trauma resolution.
What you should know about Somatic Experiencing Practitioners (SEPs):
The person holding this title completed a three year certificate program, including over 216 direct hours of education. Furthermore, SEPs have completed a significant number of consultation hours, numerous hours of personal Somatic Experiencing sessions, as well as numerous hours of patient direct treatment.
